September is National Recovery Month...
so I am on a mission to swim
1,980 laps to increase awareness about addiction and recovery!
I am committed to:

1) Swim 1 mile per day in September.
Here is how that breaks down:
- 1 Mile = 66 laps
- 30 miles = 1,980 laps

2) Go LIVE and post a 10 minute daily video sharing one of the below:
- A recovery story
- A recovery strategy
- A recovery statistic

Why did I choose swimming?

Throughout my childhood and into highschool, swimming was my sport. I loved the camaraderie of swimming. I loved the individual and team aspect of swimming. Heck...I just loved the water, so swimming was a perfect fit for me.

I remember the thrill of qualifying as an alternate (Mark D. beat me out by milliseconds) on the medley relay team for breaststroke for STATE my junior year. WOW!!  What an amazing experience.

Unfortunately my love for alcohol rose above my love for swimming. I came to a crossroad during my senior year of highschool. Off campus lunches involved drinking alcohol, returning to school for a class or two, then off to the pool for swim practice. A decision had to be made...stop drinking OR stop swimming.

Guess what I chose? Stop swimming, of course. You see...almost every time in my life, when alcohol and potential were facing off, alcohol became the victor.

This is why I am SWIMMING for RECOVERY, because ever since I survived a suicide attempt on June 8, 2001 and was Divinely freed from my substance addictions, swimming has been a staple in my recovery. I find peace in the water. I pray in the water. I jam out to music with underwater headphones. I am refreshed in the water. I also love dolphins!
Here is HOW you can participate:

1) Make a tax-deductible donation for each lap I swim in the month of September.
(I commit to 1,980 laps)

Some examples.....

$.10 / lap = $198 donation
$.15 / lap = $297 donation

$.25 / lap = $495 donation
$.50 / lap = $990 donation
